Priest: “You cannot be a practicing Catholic and be part of the current Democratic Party knowing that this group is actively working for the killing of the unborn. You cannot be part of a group or an association that’s focus is to bring about moral evils. This is why for centuries the Catholic Church has made it very clear that you cannot be a Freemason, because there are foundational principles of the Freemasons that are contrary to the Catholic faith.

You cannot be part of something which is essential to it moral evils, because you cannot be part of something and not support what is essential to it, picking and choosing what you want, what you like. And you have a moral obligation not to be part of that. There is a moral obligation here not to be part of them, regardless of whatever other good things you might think the Democratic Party is trying to bring about. Murder is a line you cannot cross.”

In a strongly worded message, a Catholic priest asserted that one cannot be both a practicing Catholic and a member of the current Democratic Party, citing the party’s stance on abortion as fundamentally incompatible with the teachings of the Catholic Church. He argued that supporting a political group that promotes policies considered to be “moral evils”—such as abortion—places a Catholic in spiritual and ethical conflict with their faith.

The priest compared affiliation with the Democratic Party to historical Church prohibitions against Freemasonry, stating that both groups promote core principles that contradict Catholic doctrine. According to him, just as Catholics have long been forbidden from joining the Freemasons due to irreconcilable moral differences, the same reasoning should apply to modern political affiliations when those affiliations involve support for actions the Church views as intrinsically wrong.

He emphasized that Catholics have a moral duty not to participate in or support organizations whose foundational goals include the promotion of what the Church defines as grave sins. The argument centered around the idea that one cannot separate themselves from the consequences of a group’s essential policies—picking and choosing which aspects to support—without bearing moral responsibility.

The priest acknowledged that some may believe the Democratic Party promotes good in other areas, such as social justice or healthcare, but insisted that the issue of abortion overrides those considerations. He argued that taking innocent life is a moral line that cannot be crossed, no matter what other benefits a political platform may offer.

Ultimately, his message was a call for moral clarity and consistency among Catholic voters. He challenged them to examine their political affiliations through the lens of Church teaching and to reject associations that directly conflict with the sanctity of life—a core tenet of Catholic moral theology.
