Nation Wood, 25, was arrested Wednesday, one day after police say he shot and killed Samantha Emge, 22, at a residence in the city’s Sunset District, according to authorities. Officers responded to the home around 10:43 p.m. Tuesday and found Emge suffering from a gunshot wound, police said, The New York Post reported.

Emge was transported to a hospital where she later died, authorities said. Investigators collected evidence and took Wood into custody on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, according to police.

Wood was booked into county jail and remained in custody as of Friday, officials said. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing.

Wood described himself on LinkedIn as a part-time security staffer who worked with protective teams linked to former President Joe Biden beginning in November 2023. His profile states he continued security-related work into 2025, during the administration of President Donald Trump.

His LinkedIn page lists him as an “independent pre-event site security advisor,” providing advance security assessments for events involving high-profile attendees. The profile states he conducted site walkthroughs and coordinated alongside the United States Secret Service.

A spokesperson for the Secret Service said Wood was never employed by the agency. Authorities have not indicated any official affiliation between Wood and federal protective services.

Photos shared online show the two together on multiple occasions, including a trip to Yosemite following her graduation. Friends expressed grief on her social media accounts following news of her death.

Supervisor Alan Wong, who represents the district where the shooting occurred, said early information suggests the incident may not have been intentional. “Early information suggests that this may not have been an intentional act,” Wong said.

Authorities have not released further details about what led to the shooting. The case remains under active investigation.
