Teamsters President Sean O’Brien, flanked by Vice President JD Vance and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, called on Senate Democrats to immediately end the ongoing government that is on pace to become the longest in Republican history.

House Republicans last month passed a “clean” temporary funding measure, knowing as a continuing resolution (CR), that would extend fiscal year (FY) 2025 through late November and give lawmakers additional time to negotiate a comprehensive package for FY 2026. Senate Democrats, with the exception of three lawmakers, have repeatedly voted against the clean bill in order to hold out for legislative wishlist items like an extension of Obama-era Affordable Care Act (ACA) credits.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has openly admitted that Democrats are attempting to extend the shutdown as long as possible in order to gain political capital, particularly by blaming Republicans for side effects like the looming SNAP crisis. O’Brien rejected this framing, however, and explicitly called on Schumer to vote for the House-passed CR while speaking at the White House.
Look, the bottom line, and we took a position, I represent 1 .3 million working men and women in this country for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. We took a position three weeks ago. Pass a clean CR, get to the table, negotiate a deal,” he said.
“Do not put working people in the middle of a problem. They should not be in there. And we’ve got to think about the families that are going to be affected. Think about when you have to tell your son or daughter they can’t play sports because you’re not getting paid. Think about when you can’t pay your mortgage. Think about when you can’t pay your tuition. Put the politics aside, get to the table, negotiate a deal, pass a clean CR right now, and then figure out the problems moving forward.”
He went on to thank air traffic controllers, thousands of whom have been working without pay throughout the shutdown. “I want to thank the Aviation Administration for all their hard work and sacrifice they make. And look, security and safety of the airlines is paramount. Let’s not compromise the safety and security. Pass a clean CR.”
The longest shutdown in U.S. history lasted 35 days, spanning between December 2018 and January of the following year. The second-longest — until the current dispute — was a 21-day shutdown under former President Bill Clinton between December 1995 and January 1996.

In a jaw-dropping turn of events, Ivanka Trump, daughter of former President Donald Trump, is at the center of a fierce political controversy after calling Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett “unfit” for office. But what happened next has left political insiders, pundits, and fans in a frenzy. In a shocking move, Ivanka played a secretly recorded audio clip that instantly flipped the narrative, leaving the political world in shock.
The tension between Ivanka Trump and Congresswoman Crockett, who represents Texas’ 30th congressional district, has been building for months. Their public feud erupted into the limelight during a high-profile event, when Ivanka, speaking at a conservative rally, made a bold statement about Crockett’s leadership abilities. Ivanka’s words were sharp, accusing Crockett of being unqualified and out of touch with the issues facing American voters.
“I have a deep respect for women in politics, but when it comes to Jasmine Crockett, I simply believe she’s unfit for the role she holds. She lacks the ability to lead and has shown poor judgment time and time again,” Ivanka declared at the rally, sparking an immediate backlash from Democratic circles.
The Recording That Changed Everything
But the controversy didn’t end there. Just when it seemed Ivanka’s comments would be the defining moment of the feud, a bombshell dropped. Moments after her scathing remarks, Ivanka played a recording that completely altered the narrative and turned the tables on her critics. The audio, which Ivanka claimed to have obtained from an undisclosed source, revealed Crockett speaking in a private conversation about her views on politics and governance.
In the recording, Crockett can be heard disparaging her own party, calling some of her colleagues “spineless” and criticizing Democratic leadership for failing to take bold action on key issues. Ivanka paused for dramatic effect, letting the weight of the recording settle in, before turning to the audience with a smirk.
“Here’s the thing,” Ivanka said, “I wasn’t the one who said these things. Jasmine Crockett did. And yet, she’s the one leading a party that calls for unity and leadership. If she can’t even trust her own allies, how can we trust her to lead the nation?”
The recording immediately went viral, sparking fierce debate across both sides of the political spectrum. Some saw it as a calculated move to discredit Crockett, while others believed it revealed a raw, unfiltered side of the congresswoman that she had tried to keep hidden from the public.
Crockett Fires Back
Not one to back down easily, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett wasted no time addressing the controversy. In a fiery statement released shortly after Ivanka’s rally, Crockett fired back at the Trump family, accusing them of hypocrisy and political manipulation.
“Let me be clear,” Crockett began, “Ivanka Trump, the daughter of a man who has caused irreparable harm to this country, wants to lecture me on leadership? She can take her recording and her baseless accusations and keep them to herself. I’ve been fighting for my community, for equality, and for justice long before she ever stepped into a public office or a rally stage.”
Crockett continued to defend her integrity, stating that the private comments in the recording had been taken out of context and were never meant for public consumption. “Yes, I’ve had frustrations with some of my colleagues. We all do. But that doesn’t make me unfit for office. It makes me human.”
The public back-and-forth between the two political figures has now turned into one of the most heated feuds in modern politics. Political analysts and commentators are still processing the implications of Ivanka’s reveal and Crockett’s response. Many are left questioning whether Ivanka’s tactic of airing private conversations will backfire on her family in the long run.
The Fallout and the Future
As the dust settles, the political fallout from this feud is only beginning to take shape. Ivanka Trump’s bold move to play the recording has left her with mixed reactions. Some Republicans applaud her for calling out what they see as hypocrisy within the Democratic Party. Others, however, criticize her for stooping to underhanded tactics, believing that it could hurt her own reputation.
Meanwhile, Jasmine Crockett’s name is now firmly entrenched in national headlines, with support for her growing among Democratic voters who view her as a fighter for justice and accountability. However, her critics argue that her moment of weakness, captured in the recording, could undermine her credibility in the long run.
In the larger context of American politics, this exchange between Ivanka Trump and Jasmine Crockett has opened up a wider debate about the ethics of private recordings, political gamesmanship, and the lengths to which political figures will go to undermine their opponents.

The previous year, a man residing in North Carolina managed to survive an encounter with a gaboon viper that he housed in his residence. The medical team that attended to him expressed astonishment as they had not witnessed anyone else pull through such a lethal snake bite. Remarkably, the gaboon viper ranks among the most poisonous snakes globally, necessitating the victim to receive 44 doses of anti-venom for recovery, the highest amount ever administered by the overseeing experts. Although he did lose two fingers during the ordeal, there were no other adverse effects noted.
Despite their potentially fatal bites, gaboon vipers are generally known for their composed nature and infrequent tendency to bite humans. This is fortunate as they possess the lengthiest fangs of all venomous snakes, measuring at 2 inches (5 centimeters). Originating from Africa, they also hold the title of being the largest vipers, reaching lengths exceeding 6 feet (1.8 meters) and weights surpassing 45 pounds (20 kilograms). The most massive specimens may boast heads nearly 6 inches (15 centimeters) in width.
They live in rainforests and wet areas all over Africa, slithering over the forest floor to hunt. They usually eat small or medium-sized mammals and birds. But they are not active hunters. Rather, they wait in hiding, taking advantage of their natural brown, prink, purple-patterned stripes and diamonds to camouflage with their surroundings. Their unique patterns can resemble fallen leaves, letting them hide among scattered leaves on the ground. When prey come within range, the viper strikes and holds it until it dies.
The rare times they bite humans usually occur when the snakes are stepped on before they can escape. If they feel threatened, they will lift their heads and hiss threateningly before they would strike. They hunt by themselves and at night, being most active around sunset.
The vipers can also control how much venom gets injected into its victim, so some bites can have no effect while others cause a hasty death. When they are particularly hungry, they can attack almost any movement, another instance where they might accidentally attack a human. And while most snakes lay eggs, these vipers reproduce by giving birth, often to 50 to 60 babies at once. They also can have a relatively long lifespan, living for about 20 years.
